Wine Wednesday: Sonoma-Loeb, 2015 Cold Creek Vineyard, Carneros

"A bottle of wine begs to be shared; I have never met a miserly wine lover."

- Clifton Fadiman

Wine of the Week: Sonoma-Loeb, 2015 Cold Creek Vineyard, Carneros

About Sonoma-Loeb:

Taking a leap of faith in 1973, John Loeb purchased a vineyard in Sonoma before it was "the thing to do". Today, the intimate group at Sonoma-Loeb create limited productions of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that reflect the natural diversity and character of Sonoma County. In addition to founding Sonoma-Loeb, John Loeb is also a humanitarian, philanthropist, environmentalist, and diplomat who has served as the U.S. Ambassador to Denmark.

Interesting fact: the label on Sonoma-Loeb's wines feature a crest known as the Loeb Coat of Arms, which was bestowed on John Loeb by the Queen of Denmark and the Queen of England.

Tasting Notes:

Coming from the Laird Family's Cold Creek Ranch on the Sonoma side of Carneros, the ’15 Viognier is perfect for a warm spring day. This wine has flavors of exotic tropical flowers, apricot, quince, lychee, orange zest, and tropical spice with hints of vanilla and clove and flavors of Cointreau, honeydew melon, and Meyer lemon. With a deep, silky texture this 100% barrel fermented wine is aged for 8 months in neutral French oak.

At the girl & the fig we’d recommend pairing Sonoma-Loeb, 2015 Viognier with pastis-scented steamed mussels, frites (garlic, leeks, herbs, grilled bread), chicken thighs (spring onions, asparagus, fingerlings, carrot purée) and soft cheeses.

At home enjoy with salmon, sweet potatoes, and carrots.
